Port Saint Lucie is a relatively juvenile city – one that is less than 75 years old in reality, as it was officially incorporated in 1961. The name itself is affluent in history, however, and according to historians, it is believed that the name "St. Lucie" was first given to this area by the Spanish hundreds of years ago after they began construction on a fort in the area on December 13th, the feast afternoon of the Roman Catholic Saint Lucia. Since its official incorporation, the city grew quickly and has continued to do so. Today it is a diverse, eclectic city full of so much to spot and do, and a thriving LGBTQ community.
