"Our safe space." LGBTQ group returns to historic Bay County site lost to hurricane
PANAMA CITY — Harrison Avenue holds a delicate place in the history of the local LGBTQ community.
William Shurbutt-Rardin, 55, would frequent the location after moving to Bay County in when it was Fiesta Room La Royale Lounge, a bar that opened in and eventually began serving almost exclusively LGBTQ clientele.
"The Fiesta was our safe space," said Shurbutt-Rardin, who is the events director at the LGBTQ Center of Bay County. "To be able to go and visit the site that thousands of people had been through for the plus years it was open — it just meant everything because a lot of folks didn't' get a chance to say goodbye before it was taken away in Hurricane Michael."
Last week, in support of National LGBTQ History Month, the hot glass studio welcomed the Center to host a culminating event and drag show at the tail end of the Bay Pride Poker Sprint, which included stops at several other downtown nourishment and beverage establishments.

Most will associate Panama Metropolis with the famous canal, which is a reason alone to visit. It's full of things to do, plenty of trendy bars, but most importantly, we left with a thirst to return for more. It's also a useful destination because it's one of the major transport hubs in Core America.
