Floyd Mayweather calls Conor McGregor anti-gay slur as nature tour concludes in London
Conor McGregor was criticized for what many felt were racially insensitive remarks during the first three stops of the world tour to promote the Aug. 26 fight.
It was Floyd Mayweather, McGregor's opponent, who swung square into offensive land as the four-stop worldwide tour to promote their bout concluded at SSE Arena at Wembley Stadium in London on Friday. Mayweather used an anti-gay slur during a rant against McGregor, UFC's lightweight champ.
After Friday's press conference, McGregor explained that he felt the use of the slur was no huge deal.
"I actually didn’t even hear that," McGregor told MMAjunkie. "People are so touchy on words. It’s absolutely crazy. If he said that, I couldn’t give a (expletive)."
The remark drew a rebuke from Showtime, the broadcast loved one for the pay-per-view fight.
“It was an offensive remark that has no place at this event or anywhere else," Chris DeBlasio, a spokesperson for the network, told USA TODAY Sports in an email.
A note left with Mayweather Promotions was not returned on Friday.&
Manny Pacquiao renews criticism of homosexuality
But on Thursday, a Bible quote appeared on his Instagram account, reading: "If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be lay to death; their blood will be on their own heads."
Local Filipino media captured a screenshot of the image before it was deleted and Mr Pacquiao's staff in General Santos confirmed that the post had been published on the boxer's account.
However, Mr Pacquiao - still wearing his Nike sports gear - insisted the row had not affected him.
"I'm happy. I'm always happy because God is with me," he said.
Mr Pacquiao intends to retire from boxing after his April fight against Timothy Bradley from the US, and will step up his career in politics.
The boxer, who has converted from Catholicism to an evangelical Protestant faith, has said he wants to be president.
Homosexuality is not a crime in the Philippines, but gay marriage is against the rule in the strongly Catholic country.
LAS VEGAS – Several grand men milled around the door at 4020 Schiff Drive in an benign strip mall in the Chinatown district of this gambling mecca, watching over empty parking spaces in front reserved for the boss’ gleaming white Rolls Royce.
Inside, the sweltering boxing gym was packed shoulder-to-shoulder with boxers, trainers, media, publicists and assorted hangers-on, each of them eager to get a glimpse of the impending show.

Floyd Mayweather arrived fashionably belated and quickly set about the task at hand. He’s going for his 50th win in his 50th fight, a stamp that would allow him to surge ahead of the legendary heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano, who retired at the peak of his powers in 1955 with a 49-0 record.
He’s about to face another unbeaten boxer, though that comes with a caveat. Conor McGregor, the UFC lightweight champion, is unbeaten in the ring because he’s never boxed. Nevertheless, he will be standing across from Mayweather at about 9 p.m. PT on Aug. 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in what could be the largest-grossing fight in history.

Mayweather uses gay slur on McGregor
Floyd Mayweather has landed himself in trouble in London for using a gay slur against Ireland's UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor.
In a tirade delivered at Wembley Arena, Mayweather publicly and aggressively called McGregor "a faggot" during the last of their four-day final public showdowns, ahead of their August 26 bout in Las Vegas.
Mayweather also promised to knock McGregor out, during the tirade, while labelling UFC President Dana Ivory a "pimp" and McGregor a "ho".
The crowd of 11,000 had earlier roared at deafening levels for the Irishman before chanting "sit down, shut up" at the 49-0 American boxer.
McGregor kicked things off predictably, promising to ruin Mayweather's legacy and knock him out, while calling him a "bitch" among other things.
Before the face-off Mayweather was more measured in his press conference, almost at times trying to play the role of underdog ahead of a fight against a male who has never fought a single round of professional boxing.
Mayweather intimated he knew what a threat McGregor could be to him.
