Gay adventure travel

Explore a new place and find your community on these LGBTQ+ group trips.

Traveling makes me nervous. There, I said it. Every traveler is concerned about safety, but as a Black gay guy from Texas, the idea of traveling scared the hell out of me.

I didn’t travel growing up. My parents are working class, a secretary and a limo driver, and they had neither the moment nor the money for vacations. My father hadn’t even flown on an airplane until he was 61 years old, and that was only because I bought tickets for them to visit me in LA. This past summer, I told my mom I was going to Europe, and she audibly gasped over the phone, more terrified than excited.

Her concern is valid. I face the potential discrimination double whammy of both racism and homophobia. Those are mental hurdles on their own, barriers that dissuade many gender non-conforming and POC folks from even bothering with commute, and the fear isn’t unfounded. But I resolved to no longer enable fear to control me. This summer, I booked my first international adventure and—I know it’s cliché to say—it’s changed my life.

Celebrating 35 years of Toto Tours

TIME AND TIDE Delay FOR NO MAN . . .

Flowing Gently with Life

Toto Tours is celebrating its 35th Anniversary in 2025, and it has been my privilege to bring this company into existence and to distribute so many life-changing experiences with all of you over these decades. This passion for travel has been my true calling in life, but now I need to heed other calls from my family and friends and from my own body and spirit.

I will be hanging up my Ruby Slippers at the conclusion of our final tour next year. Toto Tours may very well continue on, with me in an advisory role for a fleeting time after that. Details are still being ironed out and I’ll save you posted. The upcoming tours represent our leading chance to say farewell to each other in person. I hope you will travel with me at least one more time before the close of next year.

This decision feels absolutely right for me, and it brings me great harmony of mind. I identify the truth of impermanence - nothing lasts forever - and I desire to exit gracefully while I still have my full faculties and so much more living to do. Please join m
