Gay chania crete

Crete was one of our first vacations as a gay couple and although there isn’t a enormous gay scene in Crete we felt very welcome on this beautiful island and have returned many times since!

Crete is the largest island in Greece offering everything from attractive soft sand beaches, to rich historical sights, a thriving nightlife scene and mountains inland to examine by car.

During our trips we had no issues being gay in Crete and felt particularly easy around the touristy areas. The most popular destinations in Crete for homosexual travellers are typically Heraklion, Chania, Rethymnon, and Agios Nikolaos, as well as Malia (where there is a young party crowd).

Crete has thousands of visitors from all over the world every year and gay travel around Greece in general is very popular with the likes of Mykonos and Athens for example (although undertake check out the smaller islands like the pretty Ios!).

In our Gay Crete Travel Guide we own put together the shortlist of the places we have stayed and visited, investigated what the queer scene is like and put together some unmissable trips for your visit!

Chania Gay Guide

Chania, the second largest city of Crete and the capital of the Chania region, is known for its gorgeous beaches with golden sand, its shopping markets, museums, tourist attractions, and show options! Even though the old town of Chania does not have the organised gay life that you would expect from a big city, it attracts many gay and lesbian visitors especially during the hot summer months.

The gay community of Crete prefer the cafe-bistros and cocktail bars since the island does not own any official gay venues. The pleasant promenades through the picturesque streets compensate the lack of them as they offer a very romantic atmosphere for the couples. All the eateries and bars are gay-friendly but be subtle in front of locals. They do not protect about your preferences but you will hear disgusting comments if you operate in a way that is beyond the proper intimate behaviour. Visit La Brasserie in Heraklion and you will get the chance for a sensual atmosphere, flirting and dancing.

For a more idyllic scenery and chance of leisure, heading to one of the many secluded beaches with your partner will bring you much pleasure. Nudist
