Gay computer games

It&#;s been an excellent game for video games in , especially those with LGBTQ+ characters, creators, and/or themes.

As the years possess passed, more and more video game developers are getting wise to the straightforward idea that the more inclusive and welcoming your video game is, the more people yearn to play it. I know what you&#;re thinking: it may seem apparent, and even downright straightforward, that would be the case. But considering that we&#;re also living in an era where Queer laws are being ripped away like chemical strippers do to varnish, gay stories still remain as important as ever.

With so much quality to peruse throughout , the marvelous Ty Galiz-Rowe and I have taken it upon ourselves to do the monumental work of listing which LGBTQ+ video games from this year stood out and why they, if they aren&#;t there already, deserve a place on your holiday gaming wish list.

And if we missed anything you consider deserves to be on our holiday gaming list, sound off in the comments below!

Games With Inclusive LGBTQ+ Relationship Options

Summary

  • RPGs like Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader provide diverse romance options, including LGBTQ+ relationships, catering to all players.
  • Current games like Monster Prom and Baldur's Gate 3 offer progressive and varied romance options for players disregarding gender norms.
  • Games like Stardew Valley and Skyrim break barriers with inclusive romances for all genders, allowing players to engage in diverse relationships.

It seems enjoy just yesterday that news programs were decrying games for overly intimate scenes. Nevertheless, numerous titles, particularly role-playing games, continue to incorporate romance into their character-building. It's simply expected whenever a new one comes out.

Welcome to the LGBTQ Game Archive, documenting the history of lesbian, gay, attracted to both genders, transgender, and queer content in digital games (we have separated a list of analog games but that is not a primary focus of this project). This website is the ongoing research undertaking of Adrienne Shaw, a faculty member at Temple University&#;s Lew Klein College of Media and Communication. Previous work on this venture is funded in part by a grant from Refiguring Innovation in Games (ReFig) funded by the SSHRC in Canada and Temple University&#;s Digital Scholarship Center (now the Loretta C. Duckworth Scholar&#;s Studio). We lack the capacity to accept volunteer help at this time, but will be posting ways you can help here in the coming year.

In Collapse Adrienne Shaw created a long form infographic emphasizing key moments in Diverse Game and US History and main numbers from research published from this archive in recent years. It is available here.

In we collaborated on with the Schwules Museum in Berlin, Germany on an exhibit of queer game history!
