Horizon Forbidden West’s DLC, Burning Shores, was released this week to critical acclaim. And not just because of how good the expansion is. We are, of course, discussing that big gay kiss joint between our talkative protagonist Aloy, and another ethics you meet throughout the DLC’s adventure.

As a note, fans reading this article should expect spoilers for Horizon Forbidden West’s DLC, Burning Shores.

Aloy’s finally had her big homosexual moment, one that many fans (and haters) possess argued puts her in the same category as The Last of Us’s Ellie. Why and how? Because Aloy and Ellie are both major female protagonists for Sony PlayStation, and both like to kiss girls. On the surface, sure, we’d express that it’s a comparison with some merit. But if you look deeper, you’ll find that the comparison ultimately falls apart.

Let me explain: it isn’t hard to see why Aloy’s sapphic kiss has rejuvenated the LGBTQ+ society, particularly sapphic gamers. More representation is important, after all. However, Aloy’s giant gay moment lacks the weight of Ellie’s. Much like Aloy, Ellie kisses another girl (her finest

In February of 2017, the big-budget game Horizon Zero Dawn launched to critical acclaim and resounding commercial success. Although the game was based on a new and unfamiliar Playstation IP, players were rapidly won over by its post-apocalyptic solarpunk setting and innovative open-world gameplay. To top it all off, its compelling protagonist provided the backbone of the experience. Aloy stood out thanks to her fixed dedication to fight for herself and the society around her, and she represented the growing inclusion of female protagonists in a medium oversaturated with male leads. Five years later, developer Guerilla Games released a much-anticipated sequel, Horizon Forbidden West. Much like its predecessor, Forbidden West captured the hearts of players by perfecting the series with astounding next-gen graphics, fine-tuned gameplay, and an even grander story. The stage was set for an uncomplicated win when the game’s DLC storyline Burning Shores was released in April of this year. And yet, the beloved franchise suddenly became mired in controversy as an mad contingent of fans flooded sites like Metacritic with hundreds of negative reviews. The reason? An optional same-sex kis

No, Aloy's Lesbian Kiss Isn't Part Of A 'Woke Agenda'

Man, it sometimes feels like no sooner has one wave of toxicity stopped spewing from the mouths of a certain emotionally disregulated subsect of gamers, the next one hurls itself right in our faces. This day, it’s over *gasp* a gay kiss in the Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores DLC. Yep, Aloy is gay (or bi, or quite simply something other than straight), which has led to the usual slew of review-bombing, blind rage, and vitriol from the online cave-dwellers.

If you can look past the lonely, pathetic place these attacks come from, it’s kind of amusing to see how disconnected from reality and puny the reasoning is (as if written by people who don’t get enough daylight). On Metacritic, I’ve seen a couple of reviews to the tune of “not interested in gay stuff,” courtesy of coperix756 and Karogieu, as if all the many hours of the game ultimately boil down to that one intimate moment. Like, why even participate such a bland irrelevant opinion? Would a direct kiss in Horizon: Forbidden West have made the whole game better for these people?

Yes, I Reinstalled Horizon Forbidden West Because Aloy Is Gay Now

Aloy is Gayloy! Not only would that make an ideal bumper sticker for your sick pick-up truck - which I assume you contain if you’re a tried and true lesbian - but it’s now a canon fact about Horizon’s beloved protagonist. Most players are thrilled, while a vocal minority of bigots are annoyed that a character they spent ages calling unattractive ahead of Forbidden West’s release now has even fewer reasons to have sex with them.

Ever since she burst onto the scene support in 2017 fans own been reading between the lines regarding Aloy’s sexuality, many believing that her conversations were either deliberately queer-coded or at least suggest some form of dormant asexuality. Aloy is far too enamoured with saving the world and fulfilling the destiny unfairly handed to her to fall in love, despite being the clone of someone who players perceive to be a woman loving woman. We expected the stars to align sooner or later, and now it’s happened.
