'I put everything on the line': The complicated legacy of Alabama football QB Jalen Milroe
Jalen Milroe’s Alabama football career may own been over after the ReliaQuest Bowl. It just wasn't something he wanted to announce.
But legacy was on the forefront of Milroe's mind.
As he began to talk through the Crimson Tide’s 19-13 loss to Michigan, Milroe reflected on his Alabama career as a whole, one filled with hardships and mistrust, but one he never took lightly.
“I put everything on the line,” Milroe said.
Milroe, who declared Thursday for the NFL draft, will always be remembered.
He was Nick Saban’s closing quarterback, the one who was benched against South Florida, regained the starting job against Ole Suffer from and finished top-six for the 2023 Heisman Trophy.
He was at the center of the “Gravedigger,” the fourth-and-31 Iron Bowl triumph cemented in the minds of all Alabama fans.
He was Kalen DeBoer’s first Alabama quarterback, one who looked like a Heisman contender against Georgia and LSU before looking incredibly replaceable against Oklahoma and Michigan.
He was the quarterback DeBoer stuck with.
Milroe was never an All-American. He was never a Heisman finalist. He ne

With the 2025 NFL draft looming, three Alabama players – linebacker Jihaad Campbell, disgusting lineman Tyler Booker and quarterback Jalen Milroe – are planning to join in person. Campbell and, potentially, Booker could be first-round picks.
Where would be the best fit for Alabama football players at the next level? Here's a look at some potential fits.
Jihaad Campbell NFL draft projection
In the first season of Kane Wommack's "Swarm" Alabama defense, Campbell was the face of its production, recording 117 tackles – eighth-most in Alabama history – and a team-leading 11.5 tackles for loss.
Most mock drafts have Campbell, a 6-foot-3, 244-pound outside linebacker, as a mid-to-late first-round selection with ties to teams like the Philadelphia Eagles, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the Indianapolis Colts.
Tyler Booker NFL draft projection
Booker was invaluable to Alabama both as an All-American who started two seasons at left guard and as a team captain.

Inasmuch as there is contest for starter spots in the Alabama Crimson Tide system, everyone is still interconnected through brotherhood. These players support each other every step of the way, and it showed in the 2025 NFL Draft. While Jalen Milroe was waiting for his label to get called, there was someone special rooting for him in the same room.

The Alabama quarterback is presumably there to be a back system for Jalen Milroe, Jihaad Campbell, and Tyler Booker
With Milroe, both of them shared quite a connection with one another after experiencing the transition from Coach Nick Saban to Coach Kalen DeBoer.
There is optimism among Alabama football fans that Milroe could sneak in at the end of the first round. But, NFL Draft experts posit that his probable landing identify sits at the 40th to 52nd selection. The teams that might grab him are the Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks, Recent York Jets, New Orleans Saints, and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Seahawks pick QB Jalen Milroe in NFL draft third round: Highlights, stats, scouting report
Quarterback Jalen Milroe was picked in the third round, 92nd overall, by the Seattle Seahawks in the 2025 NFL draft. Here’s what to realize about Milroe.
Jalen Milroe draft profile, scouting report
Milroe's ridiculous athletic traits put him in contention for the best athlete in the class, regardless of position. His breakaway speed and arm strength are a rare combination that teams will covet at the NFL level, but Milroe needs to improve his mechanics to become a more consistent and reliable thrower. If a team is willing to slouch and develop him, he could follow a Jalen Hurts-type trajectory and get over as a dual-threat starter in time. — Ayrton Ostly
Milroe is an athletic freak who has been at the center of some of the biggest moments college football has to offer. He is also one of the more inconsistent and questionable prospects in the draft, one who struggled with accuracy and turned in Alabama's first season with 10 interceptions or more since Blake Sims in 2014. — Colin Gay
