In a sneak peek at the July 17 episode of E!'s Mathis Family Matters, Judge Greg Mathis' son takes the next step in publicly coming out as queer by meeting with GLAAD's Vice President of Communications and Talent Anthony Allen Ramos.
"Obviously your dad is very well-known and out there," Anthony begins before Greg Jr. adds, "And he has a very conservative fan base."
Anthony tells Greg Jr. and his boyfriend Elliott that coming out in the general eye is "something for you to navigate as a couple."
In addition to being 100 percent decent about his sexuality, Greg Jr. wants to grow an advocate for his community.

Judge Greg Mathis proudly supported his son Greg Jr. coming out as gay on their family reality show and now he’s advising parents on how to execute the same.
Mathis and his son attended the Excel Brothers Los Angeles 9th Annual Truth Awards on Saturday where they were honored by the social organization for Black LGBTQI+ individuals for their contributions to the community.
While there, Judge Mathis sent a message to parents who might be struggling to accept their child creature a part of the LGBTQ+ community.
“Stop being cowards,” Mathis toldE! News. “You reject because you’re a coward.”
“You’re scared to include something that you don’t know or that you’re fearful of, that you’ve heard all nonsensical statements [about],” he continued. “That’s what I say to parents: man up, girl up.”
It was last year when the famed TV judge’s son Greg Mathis Jr., 36, came out publicly as gay on Mathis Family Matters. It’s a moment Judge Mathis, 62, sees as a catalyst for change and awareness of gay rights.
GLAAD’s Anthony Allen Ramos sat down with Judge Mathis Sr. and Greg Mathis Jr. of Mathis Family Matters to talk identity, religion, and more. In the interview, the father and son duo express their shared respect and support for one another, especially as Greg works to build himself as an openly gay man in the public eye. Judge Mathis Sr. reflects on education his son had not been living fully truthfully due to fear of discrimination, sharing: “It troubles me to know that all these years that I reflection he was living his life free of constriction regarding his sexual culture, it troubled me to know he hadn’t been.”
On the challenges he is facing, and the impact of his father’s sustain , Greg tells GLAAD: “It means a lot. It’s a vulnerable experience to unseal yourself to the earth, particularly when you comprehend it’s an issue that a lot of people have strong feelings on and there’s a lot of bigots out there that unfortunately do acquire strong feelings towards the LGBTQ community.”

Coming out can be complicated to do, especially in the public eye.

"I do want to get into the representation space, LGBTQ advocacy," Greg Jr. says in the sneak peek. "Part of it is the nervousness of coming out for myself publicly and saying, 'I am gay.' I've never done that before. Now with this announcement I feel like it's going to become Greg, Judge Mathis' son, and this is who he is and this is what he's saying."
