Gavin Creel Chats AMERICAN HORROR STORIES and Kissing His Bestie Aaron Tveit
For any fan of Broadway, Gavin Creel is certainly a name you will understand. From Thoroughly Modern Millie to She Loves Me and Waitress, The Publication of Mormon, and his Tony winning performance in Hello, Dolly!, Creel has cemented himself firmly in the American Musical Theatre canon. For his latest role, he has taken a turn to the darker side in American Horror Stories, a recent anthology series on FX based on the beloved series.
I caught up with Creel by phone to chat about the novel show, his love of playing queer characters, and the kiss that made Theatre Twitter explode. Our conversation has been edited for clarity and length.
Oh Gavin, Gavin, Gavin. You in this series bring a truly insane act, but I must first ask: does the casting of you and Aaron Tveit confirm that Ryan Murphy sits at place and watches MCC’s Miscast all night long on YouTube like the stop of us?
*Haha* Oh I don’t know Kobi, I haven’t talked to Ryan about any of that but I will utter Aaron and I contain had so much amusing with them. We had no idea it was going to get so much attention. We were actually out in L

"Aaron Tveit on His Princely Role in 'One Royal Holiday' & Hopes for a Sequel"
Yes, this Christmas show premieres on Halloween. But once you see the chemistry between Broadway faves — and longtime friends — Laura Osnes and Aaron Tveit in One Royal Holiday, Tveit's amorous Countdown to Christmas debut, you’ll understand why. And, just like the two stars, we hoping it's the start of a Hallmark Channel franchise
“We started joking about that the first day,” Tveit says. “The next one could be One Royal Wedding. One Royal Baby..." (They’ll have to come up with new duets too — here, they perform Winter Wonderland for the opening credits.)
Tveit plays buttoned-up James, who’s stranded in snowy New England days before Christmas. Sympathetic nurse Anna (Osnes), unaware he’s the Crown Prince of Galwick, offers him and his mother (Tony winner Victoria Clark) rooms at her family’s Connecticut inn. While reclining by the tree and taking an impromptu carriage ride, James and the unlucky-in-love Anna slowly open up to each other, and he finds inspiration for the heartfelt holiday address he must deliver to his people.

A Deep Dive Into Hallmark Star Aaron Tveit's Secret Love Life
In past interviews, Aaron Tveit has expressed a very "Gentlemen Opt for Blondes" taste in women. In 2014, he told Harper's Bazaar that his favorite on-screen liplock was with his "Gossip Girl" co-star Blake Lively, and in 2009, he confessed to Playbill, "I am a huge Taylor Swift fan." He also told New York Theatre Reference that one of his earliest celebrity crushes was "Clueless" star Alicia Silverstone. Ericka Hunter can only hope that Tveit has moved on from blondes and is ready for the sequel: "Gentlemen Unite Brunettes."
When it comes to marriage, Tveit told Modern York Theatre Guide it's something he's open to. He revealed that he's the only member of his friend group who isn't married, but he's not letting relationship FOMO make him feel any pressure to rush to the altar. "If and when I get married, I want it to be once," he said.
In describing his approach to love, Tveit comes off as the ideal Hallmark leading man. "I'm a romantic. I believe that when you know, you know," he said. He also told Glamour, "Meanness and coldness are what turns me off." A sense of humor is a must, as skillfully, and maybe a adoration of a particu
