Miniver was her actual first name but she went by her middle identify, Sue. All the way back in 1983 the woman known to most as Sue Hanna opened Orlando’s first lesbian lock called Faces.

Faces was situated in the Lee Rd.-Edgewater Dr. area just a stone’s throw from the currently operating Hank’s. Sue would later open a much larger, multi-level, multi-bar entertainment complex known as Key Largo which was situated way up the Orange Blossom Trail just south of Apopka. Both of Sue’s bars operated primarily as gathering spots for queer women. For years men were routinely barred from entering Faces while Key Largo provided a more welcoming cosmos for all members of Orlando’s burgeoning gay collective. Actor-producer David Lee as well as Theater Downtown proprietor Frank Hilgenberg presented many fully produced shows in the barn-shaped Key Largo.

I have many fond memories connected with both of Sue’s spaces — neither of which are operational today — and it strikes me how few people who currently enjoy mingling with a healthy mix of persons represented by every letter of the LGBTQ+ moniker — at one of the very few remaining specifically gay bars remaining in town — hold no knowledge of so

As you all know, I’m always after something peculiar or spooky or homosexual whenever I travel and I happened to stumble upon this LGBTQ+ place in Orlando, FL called Southern Nights (whoever is originally from there knows exactly where I’m talking about as for Orlando is a bit of a townie vibe caring of place).

Not only hold I had the pleasure of meeting several Rupaul Drag Race queens that they happen to fetch 1 on weekly basis, but they have a large repertoire of activities, and here are the ones that i favorited:

Black Haus Creature Feature (Tuesdays):

Now, this is a first for me, as a small island girl, never i would think I’d find a place that shows alternative drag shows, in this case, my favorite genre: Goth queenly shows.

So mainly every Tuesday if you’re around you can get your restore of spooky in this place with this reside show, also link up with other peers such as your spooky self!

They have brought on queens from the show Dragula ( feel free to Google on that). (I’ve caught a couple of queens there already) and also when Dragula has a new season they do watch parties. They have a variety of themes for every Tuesday
