Hartford gay und lesbian health collective

As the Hartford Gay and Lesbian Health Collective celebrates its 40th anniversary on Monday, it is also transforming under new leadership.

The new executive director and medical director are just a few months on the job. Among the changes they are bringing is a new name: now simply The Health Collective.

The health services management has a four-decade history of advocacy and meetings with state lawmakers. Each year, they hold a Queer Prom and most recently a 40th anniversary bash.

“It’s really hard to even articulate how elated and how privileged I am to be a part of this milestone in the organization's history,” said executive director David Grant. “It's 40 years of the Hartford Male lover and Lesbian Health Collective, the impact that we've made the people's lives, that we've touched.”

Grant said The Hartford Gay and Lesbian Health Collective, now known as just The Health Collective, has touched thousands of people since it was founded on Nov. 20,

“We're the oldest LGBTQ health take care organization in the mention of Connecticut,” he said. “We've been culturally competent workers, healthcare workers for many, many, many decades, but we were also one of the first organizations

Hope and Healing

Syphilis rates are growing nationwide, so it's more important than ever to protect yourself. If you are having sex, the best way to reduce your peril of syphilis is by using condoms! What are the symptoms of syphilis? You may notice a chancre sore, which is a painless open sore at the site of infection (usually the genitals). This will go away within a few weeks. Another telltale sign is a skin rash, which often is seen on the hands, feet, and chest but can arrive on other parts of the body. Fever, hair loss, headaches, and fatigue may also be display. Untreated, syphilis can eventually attack the brain and organs, leading to irreparable damage and even death. Treating early is essential to make sure none of these things unfold to you! If you have syphilis, you may not notice any symptoms. The only way to know for sure if you have syphilis is to be tested. The CDC recommends testing every months for sexually active adults; with STI rates as high as they are, we recommend as often as every 3 months. Schedule an STI test at The Health Collective by calling !
